Yellow paintings

Last week, the 3 year old class painted with yellow paint. We have begun the year isolating paint colors so that the children can become accustomed to using a paintbrush; holding it correctly, dipping it into the paint, wiping the excess paint on the edge of the container, and using it to make marks on a page. They have observed how paint drips down the page when there is too much on the brush, and are learning how to clean spills. Once the children are comfortable with these skills, more colors will be introduced at one time.

One child looked at the big yellow splotches and said they looked like happy faces! The teachers prepared cut pieces of paper in the shapes of eyes and mouths and the children were able to affix the pieces to their paintings to make actual happy faces.
