DMS is getting ready for April 22nd! We have been talking about the importance of being kind to the Earth by recycling, using trash cans, not letting water run, and much more. The children are very concerned about taking care of their planet!
Coordination & Control
Two students were really practicing coordination and control today at school. One girl was working on perfecting a beautiful letter “b” in cursive. A two-year-old boy was learning how to zipper a jacket!
It is important to allow young children the independence to understand how common things work, and to develop their dexterity.
A Visit from a Penguin!
On Parle Français!
The five year olds are learning French with Mrs. Turrisi! Here are some photographs of students expanding their French vocabulary. They are working on French numbers.
Five Year Old Doing Algebra
Public schools don't believe children can learn algebra until around the 4th or 5th grade. Datzyk Montessori School believes a child can learn as much as he or she is able to comprehend. It just so happens that our five year old class has students who are able to understand squaring and cubing numerals. Here is one boy doing the "five long chain," or, caluculating 5³.
You should see a video of the same boy reading out loud and answering difficult questions about squared and cubed numbers. It's on our Facebook (click here!).
